How much time should I set aside for moving into an apartment if I live outside of the San Francisco area?

Tenant FAQ » About Member Services

Your apartment search should start approximately one month before you plan to move in. It will take some time to locate a suitable rental, especially if all you are able to do is make phone calls. If you can, it is best to plan a trip of at least a few days to the city before you plan to move so that you can inspect some of the potential properties and meet with landlords. Seeing you in person will make a landlord much more willing to accept a rental application.

Once you have found an apartment are ready to begin moving, you will want to have at least a week set aside for the moving process. You can take that time to familiarize yourself with the new area and not have to rush moving in.
